THE MYSTERY OF THE RECENT GLOBAL ECONOMIC MELTDOWN

The ‘Say it - See it’ slogan has been working for many people and many nations but it has refused to work for Nigeria. We all sang the National Anthem in our primary school days and for some till their secondary school days declaring that ‘the labours of our heroes past shall never be in vain’ but before our very eyes, we can see the labours of our heroes past not only collapsing but shattering. All they struggled and eventually died for in the past are now buried with them. They laid a foundation for a NEW and PRODUCTIVE Nigeria for us to build upon, but now, we with our hands have dismantled and dug out the foundation they laid with their sweat and ultimately with their blood.
I have always thought that since we have always been singing in our national anthem that we will not let the labor of our heroes past be in vain, we will act it to bring it to reality but unfortunately, it is the direct opposite of what we sang and are still singing that we are acting out to this nation. We once thought that living in this nation would continue to be pleasing and pleasant to us, we thought we will continue to be the giant of Africa, we thought that nations will dread the Name of Nigeria but alas it is not so now. If it has just affected Nigeria only, it may not be so painful but alas, most nations of the earth are suffering from this menace as well.
In recent times, we could see nations’ economy crumbling, businesses collapsing, unemployment becoming the standard in nations as even the employed are fasting and praying daily not to be laid off in the current downsizing several companies are embarking upon, rich men suffering from high blood pressure, the young, the old, the rich and the poor are dying at alarming rate, parents could no longer afford the basic conveniences for their kids. All these are the effects of the ongoing global economic meltdown which has eaten deep in the every nation of the earth as at present.
Many forms of information have spread around the globe regarding the cause of this global economic meltdown and some likely solutions. Yet, most of the supposed solution point to the fact that we have just started feeling the heat of the oven causing the meltdown.
Many have started calling on God to save the whole nations from this dangerous state but what I can hear the Lord say is “I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land, I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall before Me so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one. So now, I will pour out My fury on them, consuming them with the fire of My anger, I will heap on their heads the full penalty for all their sins. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken.”[Ezekiel 22:30-31 NLT]
From this utterance of God, I believe that this economic downturn did not just happen all of a sudden without a pre warning towards same. In 1991, a Christian financial advisor Larry Burkett, wrote a book in1991 titled, ‘The coming Economic Earthquake’. In this book, Burkett warned readers of the dire economic meltdown which is now upon us, 18 years later. The challenge now is that, we Christians commissioned to Occupy till Christ comes have been so unconcerned about what is going on in our world. We thought it was okay for us to focus only on the four corners of our homes and church and her members, thus leaving our nation, government, economic and several others of our nations to suffer loss while we are still alive. We thought once we are saved, it is settled forgetting that we were created at a time like this to reclaim the earth to God from the thief (the devil) who snatched it Adam. We got so interested in the threshold of God’s kingdom while God’s plan for us is to enter into the treasury of His kingdom.
We became experts in complaining about the situations without taking any strong step in correcting the wrong. It is so easy for us to curse darkness but so difficult for us to shine the light forgetting that we are called to shine the light and not curse darkness. God instructed me last year 2009 not to complain about the situations of the earth because we Christians are the major cause of the menace since we did not rise up to our responsibilities. He further expose me to the fact that the unrighteous have no choice than to behave like their father-the devil because it is from within, it will be so strange for a son of the devil to uphold righteousness but we Christians have become so interested in mediocrity that we did not see reasons to be like God our father and His Christ and thus we are empowering unrighteousness and all we do is complain
